Premier Scott Moe was joined by Deputy Premier and Education Minister Gordon Wyant, Batoche MLA Delbert Kirsch and officials from Prairie Spirit School Division to announce the beginning of planning and design for the new Kindergarten to Grade 12 school being built in Blaine Lake to replace Blaine Lake Composite School.
This new facility is part of the government’s $7.5 billion two-year capital plan to build a strong Saskatchewan and stimulate our economic recovery following the pandemic.
The new school will be built next to the existing school, which was constructed in 1954. The school will offer a modern learning space to accommodate up to 150 K-12 students. The new school design will include cultural spaces and ensure the school is accessible.
Construction is expected to be complete in 2023 and is scheduled to begin sometime in 2021. The Ministry of Education is in the process of hiring a project manager to complete the design and planning phase.
Since 2007, the Government of Saskatchewan has committed approximately $1.9 billion toward school infrastructure projects. This includes 57 new or replacement schools as well as 28 major renovations.
In addition, over the next two years the Government of Saskatchewan is investing $7.5 billion in infrastructure projects. This includes the $2 billion capital injection to help build a strong Saskatchewan and stimulate our province’s economic recovery. More than $135 million of this stimulus package will go toward four new schools, two major renovations, and many maintenance projects for school divisions in communities across the province.
