A 27 year-old Canora male is facing several charges after a stolen vehicle investigation and a spike belt deployment.
On Sunday, November 22, 2020, at approximately 11:00 p.m., a patrol unit spotted a black Audi, which had earlier been reported stolen. Another police unit drove to the same area and spotted the same vehicle. Police attempted a traffic stop but the Audi sped away. A patrol officer was able to deploy a spike belt, but it was only partially effective. The vehicle continued to speed, driving erratically and disobeying traffic signals. A police car was briefly in pursuit, but discontinued for safety reasons. The vehicle was later found, parked half-on and half-off the road, on the #1 highway, facing west. There were footprints leading from the abandoned car into a field, in the direction of some grain bins and a shed. A canine team and patrol members located a male suspect hiding in one of the structures. He was arrested without incident. Further investigation led to charges.
Twenty-seven year-old Chase Nicholas BADHAM, of Canora, SK, is charged with:
- Possession of a Weapon for a Purpose Dangerous to Public Peace [88 CC];
- Breach of Probation [733.1(1) CC];
- Possession of Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition [117.01(1) CC];
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000 [355(b) CC]; and
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000 [355(a) CC];
BADHAM will make his first court appearance on these charges in provincial Court at 2:00 p.m. today: Monday, November 23, 2020.
