Melville SARCAN Celebrates Grand Opening of New Expanded Recycling Depot

SARCAN Recycling and Rail City Industries Inc. celebrated the grand re-opening of the

SARCAN Melville depot on Friday, February 26th. The new depot is located at 1660 Queen

Street, in the North end of Melville across the street from the Melville Country Club.

The new building is double the size of the former depot, which includes much more space

and more chutes for serving customers. The new depot also features a separate room for

Drop & Go, giving customers quicker and safer access to SARCAN’s line skipping service.

There are also now power doors, making the depot more accessible to all customers.

“We are excited to be moving into a new and enhanced recycling depot in Melville”, says

SARC and SARCAN Recycling’s Executive Director, Amy McNeil. “This new facility is not only more welcoming to our customers, but is a more efficient and safe work environment for our SARCAN staff.”

Rail City Industries has operated the SARCAN Recycling depot in Melville since June 1988.

“The new SARCAN will enhance the quality of services provided to our customers. With the

convenience of the separate Drop and Go entrance, the expanded receiving area and the

easy accessibility of the sliding doors our friendly staff will be able to assist customers

efficiently and quickly.” Patricia Switzer, Executive Director of RCI continues, “Melville is a

community which has always supported the endeavors of RCI. We are a growing and

prosperous city, and RCI’s partnership with SARCAN, to provide a strong recycling program to the community, is just good business.”

The relocation is in response to the growing demand for beverage container, paint,

electronics, and battery recycling in Melville and surrounding area. The depot serves over

17,000 customers annually, collecting and recycling 3.5 million beverage containers each

year. The depot is open to the public Monday to Friday, from 8:30AM to 4:30PM.

SARCAN Recycling’s mandate is to provide a socially responsible and environmentally

progressive recycling system that helps foster the sustainable development of communities

across Saskatchewan. SARCAN’s parent organization is SARC, the provincial association that provides consultation, training, services and leadership to community-based organizations.

Before visiting Melville’s new SARCAN depot, customers are encouraged to visit SARCAN’s

website (www.sarcan.ca) to learn about how to visit safely during the COVID-19 pandemic.
