Saskatoon Construction Company Fined for not paying employees

A Saskatoon employer pleaded guilty to three Employment Standards violations in Saskatoon Provincial Court on January 18, 2018.

Dymar Construction, was charged with three counts of failing to pay employees final wages within 14 days of termination of employment. He was fined $2,000 plus a surcharge of $800 for each violation for a total of $8,400 in fines. Charges were laid in response to Employment Standards complaints filed in August and September of 2016. An Employment Standards officer determined that the employees were owed $9,245.31 in outstanding wages. The outstanding wages have not yet been paid to the former employees. Employment Standards will continue their efforts to ensure that the employees will receive the money they are owed. All wages, including overtime and vacation pay, must be paid out within 14 days of termination of employment. The Employment Standards Division at Labour Relations and Workplace Safety recovered more than $2.5 million in unpaid wages in 2016-17.
