Forgeign coins being passed off as Canadian warns local businessman

A Saskatchewan businessman reported that foreign currency is being passed off as Canadian coins at his business and several others in a Saskatchewan border town. The photo below was taken in Lloydminster, Sk and clearly show the similarity between the Canadian and Foreign coins.

On the left, is an Ethiopian 1 Birr piece. Same size & design color as a Canadian Toonie. Actual Value, 48 cents CDN

On the right, is a Hungarian 20 Forint piece. Same size & design color as a Canadian Loonie. Actual Value, 10 cents CDN.

We encourage Saskatchewan businesses to make sure you check your change thoroughly upon receiving coins for purchases from customers as they tend to be mixed in with other Canadian coins.
