Police standoff in Melville, Saskatchewan ends with 1 person in custody after 2 RCMP officers shot by gunman.

One people has been taken into custody by Melville RCMP early this morning after two RCMP officers shot by gunman after responding to an assault call at a residence.
Two RCMP officers were taken to hospital with serious injuries after a firearm was dicharged.
As of 2 a.m., Saskatchewan RCMP advise there is still an increased police presence on 8th Avenue in Melville in relation to an ongoing investigation.
The armed in individual is believed to be an adult male and remained in the residence.
Officers from Melville Detachment and Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team responded immediately.
The response included the RCMP Emergency Response Team, Regina Police Dog Services and the RCMP Crisis Negotiation Team.
RCMP Officers from the Serious Crimes Unit were also engaged.
At approximately 0200 AM, the suspect and another occupant exited the residence. The suspect was arrested and remains in custody. The other occupant was initially detained but released shortly after. The second occupant has since been cleared of any involvement.

People are asked to avoid the areas where police officers are present and follow any police direction provided.
RCMP will provide an update on this investigation as soon as they are able. If an imminent risk to public safety is identified, police will notify the public.
