On June 12, 2026 at 1:45 p.m., Fort Qu'Appelle conservation officers received a call regarding an injured osprey along Highway 56 near Katepwa Lake that was unable to fly. It was transported to Regina for rehabilitation. X-rays taken revealed a metal pellet from an air-powered firearm was lodged in it's abdomen. The osprey later passed away, and has been submitted for a necropsy.

Conservation officers are looking for information on who may have shot this protected bird of prey.

Anyone with information should call the Turn-In-Poachers and Polluters (TIPP) line at 1-800-667-7561 or can report online at saskatchewan.ca/tipp.
