Swift Current Wolverines steal one from Moose Jaw Mustangs

Although the final score didn't reflect it, the Mustangs started strong in Swift Current, netting three goals in the last 3:58 to secure a 5-3 lead by the end of the first period.
The Wolverines fought back to take the lead in the second period, as both teams traded goals early on. Swift Current then scored two shorthanded goals by Brady Simpson with 3:32 and 23 seconds left, resulting in a 6-6 tie after two periods.
This set the stage for an exciting final period, starting with Shane Cornelson scoring twice at 5:52 and 8:32, giving the Wolverines an 8-6 advantage.
Goals came rapidly over the next five minutes. Colton Ebbett and Chase Folk scored for Moose Jaw to level the score at eight, but Chayse Schafer and Isaac Froese quickly responded for the Wolverines with goals 42 seconds apart, restoring their two-goal lead.
Lucas Salikin brought Moose Jaw within one goal with 2:20 remaining, leading to a tense conclusion that ended when Rhone Foster scored shorthanded with one second left.
Cornelson and Riley Schafer both scored hat tricks for Swift Current, while Simpson ended with two goals and four points. Grady Henderson contributed four assists.
Cooper Bruce recorded two goals and four points for Moose Jaw, Ryder Gilroy added a goal and two assists. Hayden Tuer, Jake Gyman, and Riley Bender each scored once. Kysen Mac Angus provided two assists.
Kai Foster faced 46 shots to secure the win in net, while Joey Juchacz faced 45 shots for Moose Jaw.
